Email alias is the practice of having multiple email addresses all resolve to a single email address. For example: A small business has an employee with the email address: [email protected]. This person is responsible for the sales and customer service of the company, which have separate email addresses: [email protected] and [email protected] to handle the business of those divisions. Mail coming in to those two email addresses will be forwarded by a mail relay to the email address: [email protected] so that the employee does not need to check three separate email account to read the messages that are sent to the three different addresses.
Only the Postmaster or a Level 1 Administrator can use this feature.
To set up an alias, follow these steps:
Launch the Administration console. Refer to the Launch the Administration Console topic for more information.
From the Administration page, click the Aliases button. The Aliases page appears.
In the Alias Name field, type your alias name. Verify that this name does not conflict with any username that already exists in your portal. For example, for sales, just enter "sales"-- do not enter [email protected].
In the Mailing List field, type a comma-delimited list of email addresses to forward to. All these addresses will receive email sent to the alias provided above. You can enter email addresses of people inside your portal and/or external addresses. In both cases, you will need to enter the full email address including [email protected].
click the Create Alias button.
To edit an alias, click the Edit link that appears on the same row as the alias in the Aliases section. A window will pop up containing the alias information which you can edit.
To remove an alias, click the Remove link that appears on the same row as the alias in the Aliases section.
