File Locking/Unlocking

When a user locks a file, only the user who locked the files (the lock owner) can make changes to that file. All other users have read only access. Locked can only be unlocked when the group owner or administrator explicitly unlocks them or when the person who locked it unlocks it.

If a file is locked and auto versioning is on, nobody can add a document to the chain. If a file is locked and auto versioning is not on, nobody can overwrite the document.

Usage Guidelines:

  1. To turn on file locking on or off, follow these steps:

  2. Access the Modify File Details page. For additional information, refer to the Accessing the Features topic in this help file.

  3. Verify the permissions necessary to unlock a file. For additional information, refer to the Features Access Privileges in this help file.

  4. At the bottom of the screen, click the File Lock ON/OFF option, then click the Modify button at the bottom of the screen.

Note: The group owner or the group administrator can unlock any files locked by any group user. The lock owner can only unlock the file that he/she locked. A group user cannot unlock a file unless he/she is the lock owner. Refer to the Features Access Privileges topic in this help file for additional information.
